신규채용으로 애플 자동차 기대

차세대 자동차 개발 프로젝트인 '프로젝트 타이탄'을 위해 애플이 수백명을 채용했던 올초가 생각난다. 일명 애플카로 불리는 차세대 자동차 개발을 위해 새로운 전문가를 채용했다는 소식이다. 다만, 2020년까지는 애플카가 나오기는 어려울 것으로 보인다.

Project Titan, Apple’s hundreds-strong initiative to create a next-generation electric car, is continuing to ramp up.

Word has it that Cupertino has just hired one of the industry’s veteran manufacturing executives to help push the so-called Apple Car to market.

Today, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Doug Betts, previously the senior Vice President of Chrysler Group, has been snatched up by Apple.

Previously, Bettes was the global head of operations of Christler, leading product service and quality.

Although there is no official confirmation of Betts’ role within Apple, his LinkedIn page says he started working at Apple in July, in an operations role.

That’s not the only hire that Apple has made recently, though, the Gray Lady reports. They also say that Cupertino recently hired Paul Furgale, an autonomous vehicle researcher, and is also seeking out other employees with robotics experience for the project… implying that Project Titan, as sometimes rumored, is looking to go head-to-head with Google’s autonomous car initiative.

Whatever the truth, we’ll have to wait and see. It seems clear Apple is making a push into automobiles, but in what fashion is still a mystery, and is likely to remain so for quite some time: rumors have it the Apple Car won’t be revealed until 2020.
